Some time ago one of my best old school buddies called me because he a situation arrive that left him feeling a certain sense of betrayal. I wrote this for him, but I wrote it for myself and a lot of others as well, as we all have an opportunity to mentor and friend people who end up at some point moving on.

a true warrior
a true soldier
will walk on
he will walk forward
marching continuously into the battle
along the way
he will lead, he will teach, he will learn
he will lose some of his soldiers
some will die not cut out for battle
some will move on to lead and fight their own battles
taking the strength, wisdom, knowledge and courage that their past leaders showed them.
a true leader, a true warrior will wish that soldier his best
knowing that that soldier is a disciple of his war
that leader, that warrior, will also welcome the departed spot in his army as a chance, an opportunity to welcome, to affect, to infect a new warrior, a new soldier that he will serve and in turn will serve himself and move onto to serve others.

fear not the loss – cherish the opportunity!
